A funeral is a ceremony for celebrating, respecting and remembering the life of a person who has died. Family and friends come together to express grief for the end of a person’s life here on earth and to give thanks for that life. They also commend the person into God’s keeping.
Funeral services can be small, quiet ceremonies or a large occasion in a full church.
What we do for you at this sad time
Your chosen Funeral Director will contact us inviting the Minister to conduct the Funeral Service at the location you have selected. The Minister will make contact with you arranging an initial meeting to discuss the service and be alongside you. Once the meeting has taken place and a form of service agreed upon it is likely the Minister will contact you again before the service to ensure that there have been no recent changes and to see how you are.
The Minister will meet you on the day itself at your chosen location and conduct the service. The Minister will be available afterwards should you so wish.
In the following weeks the Minister will normally call to visit you again to offer support and see if you would like one of the pastoral team to call round.
Each year the Church holds a Bereavement Service, usually on the first Sunday of November, and for the three years following your bereavement you will receive an invitation to this service to which all are welcome.
During this short service the name of your loved one will be read out and you will have the opportunity to light a candle in their memory. You may choose to have the name of your loved one entered into the Book of Remembrance at any time and a form can be provided for you to fill in for this purpose.
In the grounds behind the old Church, a Garden of Remembrance has been created. Should you wish your loved one’s ashes to be placed or scattered here please contact the Church. You are welcome to spend time in the Garden whenever you wish. It is always accessible.
